If you’re cooped up inside and looking for something productive to do, here are four winter home improvement ideas for all the DIY (Do It Yourself) enthusiasts.
A fresh coat of paint is often just what the doctor ordered in order to brighten a room and make it look new again. Paints that are Low-VOC have fewer volatile organic compounds and don’t give off the strong fumes of more conventional paints. These can be used safely if it’s too cold to open a door or window. It’s an inexpensive way to make your home look more appealing, all while giving you something to do.
- Freshen Up Your Cabinets
To brighten your kitchen, focus on the cabinets. You can remove a door or two to showcase the dishes, or paint the inside of the cabinets for an extra flash of color. Another idea is to put wallpaper in the back of open and glass-front cabinets for a nice backdrop for your fine dishes.
- Spruce Up Your Window Decorations
A change to your window treatments can liven up a room or add a touch of color. You can buy a premade window covering or, if you’re more the DIY type, you can always make your own using a piece of fabric for decoration. Just sew a channel for the rod to hang the fabric and seams along the sides and bottom.
- Class Up Your Flooring
You can also use the time to update your flooring if you find them looking worn and dated. Snap-together flooring comes in wood and laminate options and can be installed easily and quickly. These floors general don’t require any sanding, glue or nails so a room can be updated fairly easily.
